Mi ritrovo qui a voler narrare l’indimenticabile esperienza vissuta durante la visita di Dacia Maraini a Detroit, e non posso fare a meno di far risplendere la sua presenza in questa città. È un evento che va oltre l’ordinario, un incontro che sfiora la straordinarietà e che, sinceramente, non capita a tutti di vivere.
Mi considero incredibilmente fortunata per aver trascorso tre giorni in compagnia di questo gigante della letteratura e della cultura italiana. Dacia Maraini, icona autentica, incanta non solo con le sue opere letterarie, ma anche con le sue scenografie teatrali, le poesie e i saggi che hanno plasmato la nostra percezione artistica. Grazie alla consulenza preziosa del Console d’Italia a Detroit Allegra Baistrocchi e all’iniziativa della nostra presidente Lia Adelfi, il sogno di accogliere tra noi questa straordinaria figura si è finalmente avverato.
A Detroit, al Wasserman Projects, ho avuto il privilegio di assistere a un incontro unico con la comunità. In quel momento, tutti erano pronti ad ascoltare, rapiti dalla presenza della grande scrittrice. Io stessa pendevo dalle sue labbra, travolta da un’emozione intensa che, inaspettatamente, fece tremare le mie gambe. Era un faccia a faccia tra me e il gigante della letteratura. In quegli istanti, mi sono sentita piccola e forse inadeguata, ma Dacia, con i suoi 86 anni e la sua saggezza, ha saputo trasmettermi un incoraggiamento con lo sguardo penetrante dei suoi occhi azzurri e un sorriso sereno.
Così è iniziata la nostra conversazione, un dialogo che avrei voluto durasse all’infinito. Tutti noi, presenti in quel luogo incantato, sembravamo sospesi tra la realtà e l’arte, avvolti dalle storie autentiche di una vita straordinaria. Quella serata è stata un’esperienza che porterò nel cuore per sempre, un capitolo incancellabile scritto nel libro della mia vita.

It is an event that goes beyond the ordinary, a meeting that touches on extraordinariness and, honestly, not everyone has the chance to experience it.
I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have spent three days in the company of this giant of Italian literature and culture. Dacia Maraini, an authentic icon, enchants not only with her literary works but also with her theatrical productions, poems, and essays that have shaped our artistic perception. Thanks to the valuable advice of the Consul of Italy in Detroit, Allegra Baistrocchi and the initiative of our president Lia Adelfi, the dream of welcoming this extraordinary figure among us has finally come true.
In Detroit, at Wasserman Projects, I had the privilege of attending a unique gathering with the community. At that moment, everyone was ready to listen, captivated by the presence of the great writer. I myself hung on her words, overwhelmed by intense emotion that unexpectedly made my legs tremble. It was a face-to-face encounter between me and the giant of literature. In those moments, I felt small and perhaps inadequate, but Dacia, with her 86 years and wisdom, managed to convey encouragement to me with the penetrating gaze of her blue eyes and a serene smile.
And so began our conversation, a dialogue that I wished could last forever. All of us, present in that enchanted place, seemed suspended between reality and art, enveloped by the authentic stories of an extraordinary life. That evening was an experience I will carry in my heart forever, an indelible chapter written in the book of my life.
