Fino a qualche mese fa, se qualcuno mi avesse proposto di ascoltare un audiolibro, avrei storto il naso. Leggere, per me, significa tenere un libro (sì quello cartaceo) tra le mani, sfogliare le pagine, sottolineare le frasi che mi colpiscono di più. Insomma, un’esperienza tangibile e intima. Eppure, la vita ha un modo tutto suo di farci cambiare idea, e così, quasi per caso, mi sono ritrovata a dare una possibilità a questo formato che fino a poco tempo prima mi sembrava quasi… sacrilego!
Tutto è iniziato con un lungo tragitto in macchina. Le canzoni le conoscevo a memoria, i podcast non mi attiravano più di tanto in quel momento, e l’idea di stare in silenzio per ore non era esattamente allettante. Poi, mi sono ricordata di un libro che avevo iniziato a leggere, ma che per mancanza di tempo faticavo a portare avanti. Così, un po’ per curiosità, un po’ per impazienza di sapere come andava a finire, ho deciso di scaricarne l’audiolibro.
E qui è avvenuta la magia.
Sarà stata la voce meravigliosa della lettrice, che ha dato ai personaggi un’anima, o forse la storia che mi aveva già conquistata nelle sue prime pagine, ma l’esperienza dell’audiolibro mi ha davvero colpita. Non solo ho scoperto un nuovo modo di vivere le storie, ma ho anche reso il tempo trascorso in macchina molto più piacevole. Mi sembrava quasi di avere un compagno di viaggio, una voce amica che mi guidava attraverso le pagine, trasformando i chilometri in un’avventura narrativa.
Non posso dire che l’audiolibro abbia completamente sostituito la mia passione per la lettura tradizionale – il fascino di un libro cartaceo rimane insostituibile – ma ho capito che può essere una risorsa preziosa. Perfetto per chi ha poco tempo, per chi passa ore in macchina o semplicemente per chi vuole immergersi in una storia in un modo diverso. Insomma, se dovrò affrontare un altro lungo viaggio, so già cosa farò: sceglierò un nuovo audiolibro e lascerò che una voce narrante mi accompagni lungo la strada.

Until a few months ago, if someone had suggested I listen to an audiobook, I would have frowned. Reading, to me, meant holding a book in my hands, flipping through its pages, underlining the sentences that resonated with me the most. In short, a tangible and intimate experience. And yet, life has its own way of making us change our minds, and so, almost by chance, I found myself giving a chance to this format that, until recently, had seemed almost… sacrilegious!
It all started with a long car journey. I knew the songs by heart, podcasts didn’t appeal to me much at that moment, and the idea of sitting in silence for hours wasn’t exactly enticing. Then, I remembered a book I had started reading but was struggling to finish due to lack of time. So, partly out of curiosity and partly because I was eager to know how it ended, I decided to download the audiobook.
And that’s when the magic happened.
Maybe it was the narrator’s wonderful voice, which breathed life into the characters, or perhaps the story itself, which had already captivated me in its first pages, but the audiobook experience truly amazed me. Not only did I discover a new way to enjoy stories, but I also made my time in the car much more enjoyable. It almost felt like having a travel companion, a friendly voice guiding me through the pages, turning the miles into a narrative adventure.
I can’t say that audiobooks have completely replaced my love for traditional reading—the charm of a physical book remains irreplaceable—but I’ve realized that they can be a valuable resource. Perfect for those who have little time, for those who spend hours driving, or simply for those who want to immerse themselves in a story in a different way. So, the next time I embark on a long journey, I already know what I’ll do: I’ll choose a new audiobook and let a narrator’s voice accompany me along the road.
